The gratuitous & aggressive nature of the Israeli occupation

West Ban lawyers (Majdi Mohammed:AP) Oct 12 2015

The Guardian-UK caption to this photo identifies these as Palestinian lawyers from the bar association in Ramallah, West Bank, marching in solidarity with protesters at Al-Aqsa Mosque. The one fellow is kicking a tear gas canister back towards the Israeli soldiers who lobbed it at the march.

They’re likely protesting about a whole lot more than assaults on Al-Aqsa–like the Israeli rampage against Palestinians in East Jerusalem, Gaza, & the West Bank. But what are the odds lawyers in such courtly attire would be aggressing the Israeli army? So why the tear gas canisters lobbed at them?

This photo shows the utterly gratuitous & aggressive character of the Israeli occupation which denies civil liberties to Palestinians. It’s a picture worth a thousand lies.

Build the economic, cultural, & academic boycott of Israel & demand no aid of any kind to Israel.

Million Man March 2015

Million Man March 10:10:2015 (Khalid Hussein El-Hakim) Oct 12 2015

Anybody see a report on this march in Washington, DC, last Saturday? Me neither. Tens of thousands of Black activists marched on the 20th anniversary of the first Million Man March on October 10, 1995 & media coverage was scant.

The first march in 1995, called by minister Louis Farrakhan, was conservative in political thrust & had more to do with the morality of Black men who were asked to pledge to renounce violence, abstain from intoxicants, & build Black businesses & social institutions. The problem was that it reinforced stereotypes about the Black community that justified martial law, SWAT team policing, & the war on Black youth.

An estimated 850,000 Blacks showed up in Washington, & not just men, but women activists & teens responding to the violence against their communities around the US. Whatever the conservative intent of the organizers, it was a massive show of Black power.

Serendipitously, the O.J. Simpson verdict was rendered on October 3rd, 1995–an innocent verdict that stunned mostly white people across the US. His guilt or innocence is not important here. The verdict ignited a media onslaught against Blacks declaring the irreconcilable polarity of Blacks & whites in the US. Many whites, whose racism was previously chastened by the Civil Rights & Black Power Movements of the 1960s, began to speak openly of their hatred & distrust for Blacks. Since the US remains largely segregated, they were expressing profound ignorance & prejudice gleaned from TV, film, & other media representations.

And then, the Million Man March took place, just one week after the Simpson verdict. The cacophony of emboldened racism in media & among many whites stopped on a dime. Such is the daunting affect of Black power!

Photos of the 2015 march show young activists in Black Lives Matter (BLM) hoodies. A new generation of activists is emerging. While many parse the BLM movement looking for its political achilles heel, experienced activists know building a movement is a process of mistakes, fumbles, misdirections. What alone matters is organizing the commitment of the Black community to defend itself & its youth & to build the political structures of Black power.

A salute to Black political power!

My biography

Facebook wants me to provide a short bio, so here it is (please don’t fall asleep as you read):

I was born in the 40s when the US managed to glorify its barbaric wars; was raised to be an obedient child; found that didn’t work for me in time to oppose the Vietnam War; found many other things in capitalism to rebel against; have grown to Medicare age still slugging from left field. I don’t look forward to dying but when I do, if I’m still slugging I’ll consider it a life well-spent. Disobedience & rebellion against unjust authority is highly recommended. The end.

67 years of media lies about Palestinians

Mohammed Jabari funeral (REUTERS:Mussa Qawasma) Oct 11 2015

Israel could not have carried off the terrorist occupation of Palestine for the past 67 years without the direct collusion of media, including films like “Exodus,” which glorified the death squad expulsion of 700,000 Palestinians from their homeland. Media continues their commitment to Israel in the current rampage against Palestinians in coverage that is as simple-minded as it is dishonest. Simple-minded, because the impact of BDS & social media, along with sources of independent journalism, have completely altered the political landscape. Lies don’t fly so easily–though that hasn’t stopped media from putting them in orbit.

The photo of the unarmed older Palestinian man in Hebron facing off with Israeli soldiers is a classic case of media deceit. As a video of the incident shows, he was in fact angrily confronting a group of soldiers. The video is just over a minute long & ends when he is shot down in cold blood. It’s not certain that he died; it’s not certain who shot him. But the media caption to the photo is all about the spread of alleged Palestinian stabbings of Israeli civilians & soldiers & Palestinians ‘spiraling out of control.’ At no time did he brandish a weapon & vociferously objecting to a brutal pogrom is not a provocation to shoot him down.

So when we read in Reuters that Mohammed Jabari, the young man being mourned & buried here “stabbed an Israeli policeman before being shot dead on Friday,” we don’t buy it. Nor do we actually care if he did attempt to stab the policeman because when one of the most sophisticated military forces in the world goes after unarmed protesters with tanks, tear gas, grenades, & high-powered rifles, those being assaulted have a right to defend themselves by any means necessary.

With all the alleged violence against Israeli soldiers & civilians, we await a report on fatalities & injuries which has not been forthcoming because it would likely be a mockery of reality & entirely fabricated. The violence going on is all Israeli soldiers & armed civilians going after unarmed Palestinians–& the evidence of that is replete despite media deceit.

Our deepest condolences to those suffering the loss of beloved family & friends. May the deceased Rest In Peace. Our fullest solidarity & commitment to build the economic, cultural, & academic boycott of Israel & to demand no aid of any kind to Israeli ethnic cleansing.

Palestinian freedom struggle one of most important in human history

The kids

The photo on the top is Palestinians in the West Bank shielding themselves behind a dumpster armed with a slingshot against one of the mightiest military powers in the world. The bottom photo is the protest today near the apartheid fence in Gaza which was fired on by Israeli soldiers. The young woman was overcome with tear gas & is being evacuated to safety.

There’s no need to romanticize Palestinians. They have more than earned their place as one of the most important freedom struggles not just against colonialism & apartheid, but in all of human history.

When we say “We are all Palestinians,” it is not only to render solidarity with them but to honor them as our teachers in what it takes to finally end colonialism, racism, exploitation, social hatreds of all kinds & to make this world suitable for human beings to live & love in, a world where we live as brothers & sisters.

Build the economic, cultural, & academic boycott of Israel & render every possible solidarity to the Palestinian struggle.

Media lies covering for Israeli human rights crimes operating full speed ahead

Roughing up Palestinian man in Hebron (AP Photo:Nasser Shiyoukhi) Oct 11 2015

Are these Israeli soldiers roughing up this man in Hebron & sticking an assault rifle in his face just for the hell of it? Or has he committed some crime? They must have thought he had a knife in his pocket & was going to stab one of them since the caption says “stabbing attacks against civilians & soldiers have spread across Israel & the West Bank in the past week.”

The problem with this narrative dominating all of media is the only fatalities in these stabbings are the Palestinians alleged to be the perpetrators. Dead men can’t bear witness? It would be really important–if Israel wants to even look justified in its rampage against Palestinians–if they could show a single photo of one of these incidents or Israeli victims. How serious are the injuries? Was anybody hospitalized? Did any Israelis die as a result of stab wounds? Are there any funerals we should know about? Or is it all just malarkey?

The caption goes on to say that “increasing protests by Israel’s own Arab minority has raised fears of the unrest spiraling further out of control.” You see how that works? The Israeli military & extremist thugs lay siege for weeks to the Noble Sanctuary & attempt to vandalize Al-Aqsa mosque; assault Palestinians with rubber-coated metal bullets, stun grenades, pepper & tear gas all over East Jerusalem & the West Bank; shoot down at least 20 Palestinian protesters & injure 1,000; fatally shoot protesters across the apartheid fence in Gaza–but when Palestinians protest the violence & aggression, they are ‘spiraling out of control’.

Emergency rallies are imperative across this globe demanding no aid of any kind to Israel & that Israel end the occupation. Build the boycott of Israel to stand solidly with our Palestinian brothers & sisters. We are all Palestinians!

Israeli soldiers fire on unarmed protesters in Gaza

Gaza city protesters (Mohammed Abed:AFP:Getty Images) Oct 10 2015

To understand the art of propaganda, to really get a belly-full of the stuff, you just have to read coverage about the Israeli rampage against unarmed Palestinians. Its cleverness lies in omissions & evasions, half-truths & utter lies. And even with that, it’s still dumb-ass. Because the crimes of apartheid are so egregious.

Palestinians in Gaza wanted rightly to express political solidarity with those under military siege in East Jerusalem & the West Bank & about 200 gathered to protest near the apartheid barrier between Israel & Gaza. According to the Israeli army (the last source one would go to for verification but the only source media uses), they came too close to the fence & trespassed the no-go buffer zone imposed by Israel. They also allegedly threw rocks & rolled burning tires toward the army on the other side of the fence. Of course if the army weren’t deployed there, there’d have been no problem.

But it doesn’t matter whether the Palestinians in Gaza threw rocks or not. They could stand there twirling hula hoops or doing pirouettes in tutus & the Israeli military would consider a gathering defiance because what they are trying to crush is Intifada–the spirit of popular rebellion against colonialism & apartheid. Since they haven’t been able to crush it in Gaza after three carpet bombing sieges, Israel recognizes it has a problem–especially in the face of growing BDS.

In an act that surely violates umpteen international laws governing occupation & dealing with unarmed civilians, Israeli troops began firing across the fence at protesters. An army spokesperson said the soldiers “fired at the main instigators in order to halt their advance & disperse the riot.” And Reuters ate that up & published it as the gospel truth.

Six Palestinians were killed & at least 13 more were injured. Reuters tried to soften the blow of shooting down unarmed people by saying “the Islamist movement Hamas is calling for more unrest.” And damn well they should! There needs to be unrest all over this planet against Israeli soldiers shooting down unarmed protesters giving the victory sign.

The photo is the protest fired on by Israeli soldiers.

We stand with our brothers & sisters in Gaza. We are all Palestinians!

Build the boycott of Israel & pull out the forces of solidarity in emergency rallies demanding no aid of any kind to apartheid Israel.

Armed Israeli goon squads in the West Bank against unarmed Palestinians

Thugs

The caption to this photo in a Reuters report said: “Israeli security guards carry their weapons during clashes with Palestinians in the West Bank city of Hebron, October 9 2015.” Doesn’t it look straight out of the movie “Exodus,” which romanticized Zionist terrorists & death squads taking over Palestine as freedom fighters? So has Israel deputized the settlers now as “security guards” & adjuncts to the army so they can go after unarmed Palestinian protesters with assault weapons?

On the same news day, Reuters had a headline saying: “US says it considers violent acts against Israel as terrorism.” John Kirby from the US State Department tried to talk out of both sides of his ass when he said the US “condemns in the strongest possible terms violence against both Israeli & Palestinian citizens.” But then he continued his flatulent condemnation by saying the US considers the violence, the “stabbings & killings there, particularly in East Jerusalem, as terrorism.”

After the bombing of the hospital in Afghanistan, does the US have a moral leg to stand on to condemn anything, anywhere, anyhow? More importantly, what about the killings & shootings & barbarisms against Palestinians at Al-Aqsa, in East Jerusalem, Gaza, the West Bank? What about the marauding death squads in the West Bank, the deputized thugs with assault weapons going after Palestinians with sling shots?

There’s only one way to cut the crap on all this & that is to hold emergency rallies around the world in defense of Palestinians demanding no aid to apartheid Israel & to build the hell out of the economic, cultural, & academic boycott of Israel (BDS).

Media’s sleazy coverage of Israeli rampage against Palestinians

Crybaby boy

The Guardian-UK has the headline: “Six dead as violence continues in Israel & Palestinian territories.” Calling it “violence” rather than a a violent rampage by Israeli soldiers is a foxy way of equating Palestinian self-defense to aggression when the article goes on to show that the people getting killed are Palestinians shot by IDF soldiers.

This photo is another example of that kind of sleazy journalism which prevailed in media until BDS turned that narrative on its ass. The caption says: “An ultra-Orthodox Jewish teenager is treated by a medical team after he was stabbed by a Palestinian man in Jerusalem. An 18-year-old Palestinian was arrested after a 16-year-old Jewish teenager was stabbed near a main road separating Orthodox Jewish neighborhoods from Palestinian districts.” This is one of those stories where the devil is in the details.

Where was our ultra-Orthodox lad when he got stabbed? And what was he doing there? Was he in a gang of extremists at the Noble Sanctuary compound trying to get entry to vandalize the mosque? Was he taunting or beating on a Palestinian? Was he prowling East Jerusalem looking for trouble with Palestinians who not only can’t pray without soldiers standing over them but who are under martial law? Or was he just ambling down the street in a martial law zone minding his own business? We trust his injuries are minor, if existent at all, but would like to know what happened to the alleged attacker. Pardon us if our credulity has been taxed to the max by 67 years of lies.

From the NY Times to Israeli tabloids, the story is Palestinians are getting shot after attempting to stab Israelis. But according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, in just the last ten days, 14 Palestinians were killed by Israeli soldiers & 1,000 were injured by rubber-coated metal bullets, live ammunition, tear gas inhalation & suffocation. Some Palestinians, like in Gaza, are getting fatally shot at protests, some at checkpoints. An unarmed Israeli Palestinian woman with her hands in the air was shot in cold blood at a petrol station. Can Israel report a single incident of a fatality where the perpetrator was Palestinian & not just alleged to be? For that matter, outside the death of the two Israeli couples allegedly by Palestinian gunmen, can they point to any fatalities or injuries at all? Because 1,000 injured Palestinians is a daunting comparison.

Palestinians grieve & bury their dead–as those in Kashmir also do–with massive political protests honoring their martyrs. Their losses are profound. Our solidarity must also be massive with emergency rallies & building the hell out of the economic, cultural, & academic boycott of Israel (BDS).
