UPDATE: The person who posted this album must have changed privacy settings so it is currently unavailable to view. But I will leave this up to show there are Hindus around the world who actively oppose Hindutva nationalism & stand with Kashmiris.
More photos from the Adios Modi protest in Houston today: this is the Hindus for Human Rights-USA contingent. Protesters made clear distinctions between respecting Hinduism as a religion & their opposition to Hindutva nationalism. There was no hate mongering but a clear message of support for Kashmiris. Our deepest respect to the organizers & participants of this event.
Photo reportage on the Adios Modi counter-protest in Houston, September 22nd, 2019:
The Gates Foundation award ceremony for Modi building public toilets will be in NYC on Tuesday & Wednesday of this week. New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern has been apprised fully of the situation in Kashmir by media & directly by Kashmiri solidarity activists & she still has not backed out of honoring Modi. Wearing a hijab & passing out hugs after the massacre of Muslims at Christchurch will not outweigh her outrageous flouting of human rights for Kashmiris, Assam Muslims, or oppressed castes who are still dying from cleaning out sewers. Ardern is on the same trajectory as Suu Kyi: from paragon of humanity to culpable in genocide.
The only reason I am not in Houston today participating in the Adios Modi rally is because I have to work today. If my car was capable of the 12-hour round-trip or if there were a bus or car caravan from here, I would find a way out of work. But like all of us, I stand in full solidarity with the thousands in Houston standing for hundreds of thousands of Kashmiri supporters around the world.
In my holistic view of politics–that all wars, occupations, genocides under the guise of the Islamophobic ‘war on terror’ are integrally connected & must unite in action–it seems to me that the Kashmiri struggle combined with the Kashmiri solidarity movement combined with Palestinian, Rohingya, Uyghur, Syrian, & other freedom struggles, have the political potential to decisively undermine the ‘war on terror’ & expose who the real terrorists are in this world: not Muslims, but Putin, Trump, Xi, Suu Kyi, Modi, Netanyahu, Assad.
Organizers of the Adios Modi counter-protest in Houston expect a crowd of 10,000, all coming out of commitment. The Howdy Modi organizers had to bribe Indian students & teachers in the US with offers of free bus rides to Houston. Some of them used the free tickets to join the Adios Modi rally.
The Houston Chronicle reported this morning that just hours after he landed in Houston on Saturday, Modi held a private meeting with CEOs from 16 energy companies. The meeting concluded with the signing of a $2.5 billion deal between Tellurian, a Houston liquefied natural gas company & India-based Petronet LNG. The Chronicle called it ‘one of the largest liquefied natural gas deals in US history’. Petronet LNG will invest $2.5 billion in exchange for 5 million metric tons of liquified natural gas per year from a Tellurian export terminal in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
