This very powerful photo is of a member of Kashmir’s Association of Parents of Disappeared People at a protest rally in Srinagar. Losing a beloved to any form of violence is a particularly wrenching grief; not knowing what happened to them is an unendurable grief you suffer to the grave. We know that from the testimony of hundreds of thousands of family members around the world disappeared by regimes as a form of social control. It’s a primary political weapon under neoliberalism, the barbaric phase of capitalism.
Our deepest respect for the resistance movements in Kashmir; our fullest solidarity with their struggle to end the Indian occupation & achieve self-determination.
