The 2011 Arab Spring uprisings were remarkable in their tenacity & courage & were all distinguished by the leading role of women. That was true in Egypt, Yemen, Syria, & Bahrain. That makes this documentary on the torture & sexual violence inflicted on women political prisoners in Bahrain so much more wrenching & disturbing. In the violent repression of the uprising, the Bahraini monarch relied heavily on British & US police training–an ignominy that makes our defense of Bahraini political prisoners an iron-clad responsibility. As an aside, Amal Clooney was an attorney for the Bahraini king after the repression of the uprising which completely invalidates, or at least challenges, her credentials as a human rights advocate.
