The editorial policies of Kashmiri media are constrained under the occupation. But publishers who dance to the beat of Indian censors & ad revenues are not the same as the journalists who have long protested for freedom of the press, including under the current lockdown. Several years ago, a prominent Kashmiri photojournalist who worked for international media returned home to find Indian troops had surrounded his home, vandalized it, & were terrorizing his wife & small son. It’s precarious to be a publisher in Kashmir but it is outright dangerous to be a journalist in Kashmir.
