US health care facilities & medical personnel report the increased presence of immigration agents prowling hospital corridors & emergency rooms for undocumented immigrants & refugees. There are increasing complaints about immigrants being shackled while undergoing treatment, of uniformed immigration agents intruding into emergency care procedures, & present in exam rooms during discussions with doctors about treatment, all for the purpose of arresting & deporting the undocumented. Under the Trump regime, these intrusions into medical facilities have increased when it was once considered criminal to enter hospitals to arrest or deport patients. In one egregious violation in 2017, immigration agents followed a ten-year-old girl with cerebral palsy to a Texas hospital & took her into custody after her surgery. She had been brought to the US as a toddler.
Health care is a human right, not a privilege of citizenship. Open the damn borders. No human being is alien to us.
