It is so deeply disturbing, in terms of a free press & Palestinian justice, that Palestinians are vilified in all media. The McAllen Monitor, the local paper & hundreds of other local papers; Newsy, the hip news network; all major media, including Univision, the dominant Spanish-language network in the US which is owned by Zionist Haim Saban; even The Onion is owned by Saban. The only place Palestinians can be heard is on social media & that explains the censorship they face.
This isn’t a complaint akin to anti-Semites who claim Zionists control the banks, media, governments. It’s intended to show the strategy Zionists–including Christian Zionists & those who run the US government–employ to control the narrative about Israeli colonialism, apartheid, genocide.
Students from Central University of Kashmir have been protesting the arrest of two students last Friday in a night time raid on their off-campus housing. Suhail Ahmad from Shopian & Muhammad Ismail from Baramulla have no connections to any militant groups. This is a way to intimidate students & teachers from actively opposing occupation. Resistance to the occupation is so profound & pervasive that even arrests & threats or the fear of pellet guns do not stop students from taking to the streets.
Such is the state of resistance & transformational politics today that there are no protests in response to monstrous human rights crimes & wars. But we can beat the drums loudly on social media to let Palestinians, Kashmiris, Rohingyas, Uyghurs, & those in war zones know we stand with them & to help rebuild movements of international solidarity.
Note how this article refers to Suu Kyi’s “indifference to atrocities committed against Rohingya Muslims” when she is a central figure in the genocide. Also note that a spokesperson for her political party, heralded as a return to democratic & civilian rule, defends the genocide. The only reason for maintaining the fictions about Suu Kyi & her party is to enable massive investments in Burma’s neoliberal economic programs. By the way, Suu Kyi raked in over 150 human rights awards & only a few have dumped her. Canada dumped her as an honorary citizen but they have not withdrawn from their joint mining project with the military. When it comes to genocide, you can’t play both sides of the street.
No one could claim Hamas are adepts at manipulating public opinion but they have a right to defend Gaza against Israeli bombers—even if a few mortars are no match for war planes. Anyone who dares fault Hamas for provoking Israeli bombing function as two-bit apologists for genocide & should hang their heads in shame.
