Kashmir is not just some people’s political hobbyhorse. It’s one of the most important freedom struggles of our times because it encapsulates Islamophobia, the ‘war on terror’, the rise of fascism, genocide. Because of Kashmiri solidarity with other struggles, it can provide a framework & model for unity in action with other freedom struggles, including the Palestinian, Rohingya, Uyghur, & antiwar struggles. If you aren’t standing in some way with Kashmir, you’re missing the full meaning of ‘First they came for the Muslims…& then they came for me’.

Joshua Brown, a key witness in the murder trial of the Dallas police officer who shot Botham Jean to death, has been murdered. The police officer is expected to appeal her guilty verdict. There’s no need for conspiracy theories since any white supremacist would have motive to murder Brown. The issues are whether he will find justice & how this will affect an appeal on the Botham Jean verdict.

To impugn the Hong Kong protests, many are making unseemly comparisons between the attention paid by media to police violence against protesters in Hong Kong & that paid to Israeli violence, bombing, snipers against Palestinian protesters. They make it seem as though the protesters in Hong Kong are at fault. Smarten the hell up! It serves US policy goals to discredit China by feigning support for the protesters as it serves US policy goals to discredit the Palestinian struggle against Israel. The US does not support popular movements for democracy & actively attempts to undermine & discredit them whether against Chinese autocracy or Israeli colonialism. It can deal with autocracy but not with popular rebellions for democracy.

It’s uncertain when this video from Kashmir was taken. It appears from now but it could be anytime since 2010 when Omar Abdullah–now playing the political prisoner in a luxury suite but then chief minister of J&K– introduced the use of pellet guns against unarmed protesters. You can see others trying to remove pellets from one of the victims since it risks arrest to go to hospital for medical treatment.
It’s a poignant video which captures the anguish of those living under such a brutal occupation.

A young Kashmiri man bitten by a snake died because his family could not get medical care in time. What do we call that if not genocide?
A 20 year old Kashmiri boy died today after being denied health services. Imagine being bitten by a snake and being stopped by army men every 100 meters and constantly being told to go home. Imagine knowing you’ll die because of a state imposed curfew resulting in all health care facilities being shut. Imagine being a mother frantically searching for the antivenin across the valley with your son for 16 hours, only to watch him die. And, then to add insult to injury, the army sends the antivenin 2 days after your son passes away.
This is the tragedy of my people. Some are dying from pellets/bullets while others are dying from a human rights lockdown.
This is not a communication blackout and I urge everyone to stop calling it that. It is a human rights lockdown, it is terrorism in broad daylight. It is state sponsored terrorism.
I want to ask, who will help the boys parents get justice? What does justice even look like for the parents? With each death, the pain is enveloped in my blood.
The people of Kashmir will never forget. The call for azadi is ringing from Srinagar to Baramulla to Jammu to Bandipora to Kupwara to Doda to every part of Kashmir.
Lazim hai ke hum bhi dekhenge!

This is a quite valuable history of India’s domination over Kashmir which also points out the affinities with the Palestinian struggle against Israeli colonialism.
Inside India's Crackdown on Kashmir
