Tomorrow, Trump will sign an executive order defining Judaism as a nationality & not just a religion. It sounds foolish since most people consider it an ethnicity but his malignant purpose is to trigger a section of the federal Civil Rights Act of 1964 barring schools that receive federal funding from discriminating on the basis of race, color, or nationality. Federal funding can be withheld for any school or educational program that discriminates but the Civil Rights Act does not incorporate discrimination on the basis of religion. Where he’s headed with this order is to attack BDS on college campuses using the charge of anti-Semitism as anti-Jewish nationality.
Once again, the attacks on BDS inextricably link the Palestinian struggle to attacks on the Bill of Rights, the only section of the US Constitution worth respecting.
