Protesters in Kerala, India evoke comparison with Guernica, the Spanish town that in 1937 German bombers turned into a symbol of the atrocity of fascism & war. It was immortalized in Picasso’s painting exhibited in the Museo Reina SofĂa in Madrid. The allusion will likely go over the heads of Modi, Shah, & many of their Hindutva followers but it is already apt in Kashmir & headed that way in India.
