Just to remind people that I have a deep aversion to the use of ‘retard’ or any of its derivatives like ‘libtard’ as an epithet & don’t allow them on my wall. The self-advocacy movement of those with learning disabilities campaigns to remove that term as a description of their disability because it has become a common term of insult, including among children who learn it from parents. It is immensely painful to be stigmatized & taunted as ‘retarded’ because it limits their ability to be accepted, respected, integrated in social life. I have long experience & deep commitment to those with learning disabilities. They are not adults with 5-year-old minds but human beings with some limitations.
