Could I just say again that the word ‘retard’ or any derivatives of it like ‘libtard’ are extremely hurtful to those with learning disabilities & are considered as hate language? The Self-Advocacy Movement of those with learning disabilities actively campaigns to have ‘retarded’ removed as a designation for their disability because of its widespread use as a stigma & term of abuse.
I say this with respect to my younger brother Paul who took his own life after 40 years of humiliation, growing up as he did in an era when those with learning or other disabilities were considered subhuman or defective.
