Woman lawyer for Asifa’s family threatened & in fear for her life
From the demeaning response so many commentators gave the #MeToo movement, it’s clear that too many do not understand or they support the role that rape & violence, including murder, play in subordinating women. Violence is ubiquitous in every woman’s life. This young woman is the lawyer for Asifa’s family, She not only has to probe the savage violence of this crime but she talks here about being threatened herself by high caste lawyers in Jammu. She is afraid of being brutalized or murdered. Part of the international campaign to demand justice for Asifa is demanding protection for this young woman in fear for her life for standing against the rape & murder of a child.

These two young Kashmiri women are being arrested for protesting to demand justice for Asifa. Hundreds of students protesting for Asifa across Kashmir have faced tear gas & pellet gun attacks. Three were admitted to hospital with pellet injuries to their eyes. What Indian authorities have every reason to worry about is that the political campaign in defense of Asifa will broaden to international campaigns against sexual violence under occupation, like the mass rape & torture at Kunan Poshpora in 1991, & an exposure of sexual violence as part of caste oppression. This is #MeToo writ large.

Since the Assad regime turned its weapons on the Syrian Arab Spring uprising in 2011, over 465,000 Syrians have been killed, 1 million more have been injured, & 12 million–more than half the country’s population–have been forced to flee their homes. More than 5.5 million fled abroad & registered as refugees. Those are the voices that have been shouted down & drowned out by western Assad propagandists & their fellow travelers. The racism & Islamophobia should take our breath away.

Speaking at an event in London, Indian prime minister Modi addressed the international furor over 8-year-old Asifa by saying rape is rape; it’s sad but don’t politicize it. Actually, it was members of his own party & Hindutva nationalists marching for the adult male rapists & murderers of a little girl that exposed just how political rape is. It is one of the most violent expressions of gender, ethnic, religious, caste, & class oppression. It is not a personal crime at all & it’s about time that was recognized.
What’s the going rate for a fascist these days? What’s the per diem for Bartlett & Beeley? Or are they on retainer? They function like ventriloquist dummies so Assad shouldn’t have to shell out too much for their services. They’ve taken to vilifying with a vengeance. Were their childhoods that bereft? What will they do when the Arab Spring uprising is defeated? Will Bartlett move on to North Korea? Will Beeley go back to horse back riding? Will the dogs go on with their doggie lives? Will I be expected to attend the memorial services for old socialists who croaked supporting Assad’s dictatorship & just pretend it didn’t happen? Just asking for a friend.
Eleven people like the Faebook page “Vladimir Putin for the Nobel Peace Prize.” But why isn’t there a groundswell for his nomination? After Kissinger, why not? You’d think all those socialists who quote Lenin & Stalin to support Russian bombing of civilians & all those “retired” CIA, FBI, & Pentagon officials leading the US antiwar movement would be lining up for this endorsement right behind the Stalinists & fascists. Or are they on the “Bashar al Assad for the Nobel Peace Prize” bandwagon?
Soon they’ll hold retrospectives on Hitler, Stalin, & Pol Pot as champions of the people. The falsification of history, like their denunciations of mainstream media, will be complete. It’s like watching horse manure rot.
So how is it that Assad supporter Robert Fisk rode with the Syrian army into Douma & walked about town interviewing residents when the fact-finding team from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) is holed up in Damascus, scared off by gunfire & explosives?
